DC Description
The Pacific States/British Columbia Oil Spill Task Force was initially created by a Memorandum of Cooperation signed in 1989, following two oil spill incidents on the Pacific west coast: the first involved the barge Nestucca, which spilled oil off the coasts of State of Washington (United States) and Province of British Columbia (Canada) in December of 1988; the second incident was the T/V Exxon Valdez spill in the State of Alaska (United States) in March of 1989. In June 2001 a revised Memorandum of Cooperation was written to include the State of Hawaii and a focus on spill preparedness and prevention for the 21st century. Cf. Agency homepage. Name changed from States/British Columbia Task Force on Oil Spills.
