Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources was established Dec. 5, 1978 by the amalgamation of Ministry of Mines and Petroleum Resources and some of the functions of the Ministry of Energy, Transport and Communications. Ministry dissolved Feb. 28, 1996 and functions were absorbed by the Ministry of Employment and Investment. On Feb. 18, 1998 these functions were transferred to the new Ministry of Energy and Mines (and Ministry Responsible for Northern Development). On June 16, 2005 the Ministry of Energy and Mines reverted to the former name of Ministry of Energy and Mines and Petroleum Resources which existed from 1978-1996.
