"In Sessional Papers . . . Session 1893. pp. 507-518. Commissioners: Chief Justice Sir Matthew Baillie Begbie, of the Supreme Court, and Emil A. Praeger, M.D.,of Nanaimo. Appointed October 6, 1892; report dated February 20, 1893. The commission was charged with the inquiry as to the "channel and means through which the said epidemic of small-pox was introduced into the Province, referring to the outbreak which occurred in the beginning of July last, which led to the Order in Council of 11th July 1892," and also " the spread and dissemination of the said epidemic in the Province." After examining many witnesses, the commission advised that more care should be taken in quarantine matters affecting both quarantine in regard to ships and in regard to cases already developed on shore." -- Royal Commissions and Commissions of Inquiry under the "Public Inquiries Act" in British Columbia, 1872-1942 : a checklist, by Marjorie C.
