DC Description
Accompanied by annual Statistical reports and tables.
"With fiscal addendum ending Mar. 31."
Name changed May 1, 1973 from Dept. of Rehabilitation and Social Improvement to Dept. of Human Resources, and again Oct. 1976 to Ministry of Human Resources.
Historical departmental history note: The Department of Human Resources was established May 1, 1973 (SBC 1973, ch. 84, s.6) when the Dept. of Rehabilitation and Social Improvement was renamed the Department of Human Resources. In October 1976 the Department of Human Resources was changed to Ministry of Human Resources by statute when all the “departments” were changed to “ministry”. On August 14, 1986, the Ministry of Human Resources was renamed the Ministry of Social Services and Housing when it absorbed the housing functions of the former Ministry of Lands, Parks and Housing. On Sept. 23, 1996 the Ministry of Human Resources reverted to its former name when the Ministry of Social Services was split to form the new Ministry for Children and Families and the Ministry of Human Resources. On July 21, 1999 the Ministry of Human Resources changed to the Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security. On June 5, 2001 the Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security reverted once again to its former name, Ministry of Human Resources. The Housing component was transferred to Minister Responsible for Housing for the period Aug. 12, 1999-Feb. 24, 2000. (Mike Farnworth was appointed by Premier Clark to be the Minister Responsible for Housing on Feb.18/98. This appointment was confirmed by Premier Miller by OIC 1113/99, August 25, 1999). On June 16, 2005 the Ministry of Human Resources was renamed Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance and the Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance ceased June 23, 2008 when it was renamed Ministry of Housing and Social Development. (Sources: British Columbia Statutes; LLBC Reffiles/Current Lists/Cabinet Appt. by Portfolio; LLBC Reffiles: Miller Cabinet (including Notes) and other Cabinets by Portfolio; Press releases and press release kits; Employment and Investment 1999/2000 Annual Report). (Cf. Ref librarian and cataloguer notes. Updated as of March 18, 2010) I have this in bib 347386 Housing information for 1999/00 was not located as part of a ministry annual report and no report was issued by Minister Responsible for Housing (Aug. 12, 1999-Feb. 24, 2000); The Ministry of Employment and Investment Income Annual Report 99/00 contains some housing information on pages 14, 17, 25, etc. (regarding programs and the transfer of responsibility to Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security) and 31 (Legislation administered by the ministry). No annual report was issued for 1999/00 by Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security; housing information was issued in 2000/01 Annual Performance report for Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security.
