The Safety Authority Act was passed and given royal assent in the May of 2003. The Act established the British Columbia Safety Authority a not for profit corporation, to carry on activities throughout British Columbia that foster safety in the design, manufacture, disposal, construction installations, operations, maintenance and use of technical products, equipment and systems. The responsibility for these activities will be delegated on April 1, 2004 through the provisions of the Safety Standards Act. This will transfer the existing safety operation component of the Safety Engineering Services Division, MCAWS (Ministry of Community, Aboriginal and Women's Services) to the Authority. Cf.
